Dr. Matthew Breland briefly worked as an engineer before changing paths to medicine. He graduated from University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham (UAB) in 2014 before relocating to Texas, where he completed a preliminary year in general surgery and residency in diagnostic residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Training in the world-famous Texas Medical Center afforded opportunities to learn from the best at the nation’s busiest level I trauma center, perennially top-ranked cancer center (MD Anderson), and one of the country’s finest pediatric centers in Texas Children’s Hospital.
After completing residency in 2019, Dr. Breland returned to Birmingham for the Alabama Orthopedic Imaging fellowship program, honing sports medicine and orthopedic radiology skills in support of the renowned Andrews Sports Medicine clinic.
Following this subspecialty training, Dr. Breland relocated to the Roaring Fork Valley with his wife, Rachael, and immediately felt at home. Matt, Rachael and their five children stay busy hiking, biking, and skiing Colorado’s Western slope, playing baseball and soccer, and exploring the Western United States.
